Silk Road Vineyards “Harvest” Dry Red blend 2017
Silk Road Vineyards “Harvest” Dry Red blend 2017
Character: Full-bodied
Varietal: Blend
ABV: 15.0%
From China’s west-most wine region, Yili Valley in Xinjiang province. Xinjiang is situated along the Silk Road, and as early as the 2nd century BC, wine and grape travelled to China along this ancient trade route. The semi-arid climate lends well to organic winemaking conditions.
This wine benefits from the region’s long ripening season, ample sunshine, gravely sandy soil and natural gentle irrigation from snowmelt of the Tiansai Mountains. It is a dry red blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.
Tasting Notes
"There are layers of dark ripe berries, baking spices, tobacco leaf and caramel flavours, the fine tannins yield a velvety mouthfeel. Well balanced, full-bodied, leading to a lingering finish."

About this wine/region/producer
Most of China’s vineyards lie just north of the Yangtze river. Around 80 per cent of China’s wine growers overall are dedicated to bordeaux-style red wines, and cabernet sauvignon is the predominant grape (China has the largest planting area of cabernet sauvignon vines in the world). You’ll also find pinot noir, muscat hamburg, and grape crossbreeds – made when growers deliberately cross two grape species – such as marselan, a blend of cabernet sauvignon and grenache.
