Collection: Maotai 茅台

The name Maotai is almost synonymous with the Kweichow Moutai brand of grain liquor of the same name, made from Sorghum. It is unequivocally the ‘national liquor’ of China.

Yet in actual fact, Maotai is also the name of a town in Guizhou province, and a designated appellation name, where many producers make baijiu under the designation of Maotai Town baijiu. It is widely believed that distilling workshop existed here since at least the 16th century, during the Ming dynasty.
